Discover the Sky Within: Embracing the Awe Experience.

One fine morning, after my daily meditation, I stepped out for a walk. It felt ordinary—until it wasn’t. The rhythm of my steps, the cool morning air, and that lingering silence of stillness: all of it aligned in a single breath.
And then—I looked up at the sky. A sky I’ve seen countless times—but this time, it felt infinitely new. Bright, blue, vast. So vivid that it seemed to dissolve the boundary between the external sky and the sky within me.
It wasn’t a thought. It wasn’t an effort. It was an experience—a sudden, gentle oneness.
The Expansive Moment
Life often happens inside deadlines, duties, expectations. Our minds build walls that shrink our sense of self. Yet every so often, something—a bird's flight, rain, cool breeze, or a morning sky—extends an invitation to remember: we’re not limited to our bodies or thoughts. There's an inner sky as boundless as the one we perceive.
How the Awe Experience Shapes Mind and Body
When we touch expansiveness, something inside shifts. Thoughts soften, anxiety shrinks, and what feels large loses its dominance. Our breath eases, muscles relax—our nervous system settles into calm. Think of it as a parasympathetic shift, or in yogic terms, pure peace.
Modern studies affirm this. Researchers have found that awe supports elevated vagal tone, reduced inflammation, and shifts away from the "fight‑or‑flight" response. Consistent exposure to awe has also been shown to improve well‑being, ease stress, and enhance brain function.
In a recent study of individuals with long‑COVID, brief awe‑inducing activities led to lower depression, less stress, and increased well‑being.
The Sky Within
Ancient sages named this realization: “Ākāśo’ham”—“I am the sky.” The sky holds storms and light, yet remains untouched. Similarly, within us lies vast awareness that hosts joy and sorrow, beginnings and endings—yet remains free.
That morning’s glimpse of oneness filled me with deep gratitude.
An Invitation to You
Next time you're outside, pause. Look at the sky—not as distant, but as reflection. Let its vastness remind you of your inner boundlessness. In that moment, boundaries dissolve.
Because the sky isn’t just above—it’s here, within you.
Take-Home Points:
Awe renews. Moments of expansiveness can bring calm and clarity.
Science affirms experiential truth. Awe supports physical health and emotional well-being.
The ancient and the modern meet. Ākāśo’ham bridges timeless wisdom and contemporary insight.
Invite awe daily. It’s accessible, powerful, healing.
This is such a refreshing take on the miracles of life we often miss. Thanks for reminding us🙏
Beautiful write up
Aptly coined words. When you are calm inside everything looks serene
That's a very nice thought. To be in awe of oneself.
